We personally pay tuition for two children. You can decide how much or how little you use. Some of these things are required, some are not. If you decide to do Classical Conversations be prepared to pay for tuition, supplies, books, CDs, maps, etc. This family has some travel goals and we would love to be able to continue with Classical Conversations if possible.Ĭlassical Conversations can be more expensive than other homeschool options. I truly hope they will create more options for this in the future. Technically, you can still do Foundations without community, but the overall model is not set up for families on the road. If you are a road schooler or a nomadic family, Classical Conversations can be tricky. One of the big reasons we like to homeschool is travel. Seriously, though, I am always glad we went, it’s just the getting there part that is difficult. I know I could plan better, have a better attitude and I promise I’m working on it. School teachers deserve a special spot in heaven because after just a few hours around all those little kids, I am tired. ![]() One of the perks of homeschooling is NOT having to do that on Monday morning isn’t it? I have to pack a lunch and get us all out of the house by 9am. Community Day is also the thing I can’t stand about Classical Conversations.įirst, it’s usually on a Monday. ![]() What? Didn’t I just say Community Day was a good thing? It gives us a chance to get out of the house, socialize (insert eye roll from every homeschooler here,) and gives me a break from teaching for one day. The tutors (usually a parent) introduce the new lessons for that week, the kids do a science and art project, give a presentation, and then we all enjoy lunch together while the kids play. Once per week, we meet up with the other CC families in the area and have community day. Many can also draw an entire map of the world, including countries, rivers, mountain ranges, etc., by memory. So often we are programmed in a negative direction, I actually like this programming (but that’s another blog post.)īy the time they reach middle school, many children have a 13 minute song about the timeline of the world completely memorized. I did not understand the classical method before we started CC, but I quickly fell in love with how much history my kids were learning and how they were being programmed to remember it for life. If you like the classical education model, this is a rich, amazing curriculum choice. I just have to fill in the blanks with other curriculum. They take care of history, geography, latin (which seemed unnecessary to me at first,) plus some math, science, and art. ![]() While we were soaring ahead in some areas, I felt like I had no time to plan out others.Ĭlassical Conversations takes some pressure off the planning. I didn’t either until I felt like I was drowning in some subjects. Some homeschoolers don’t like to be told what to do. Now, two years later, I will gladly share the good and the bad in my review of the Classical Conversations Foundations program. ![]() So I reluctantly started “CC” and, I’ll admit, the first community day, I was wondering what the heck I had done.Īfter a few weeks, it all started to click. Then we hit year two of homeschooling and I was slowly realizing I was not a Pinterest mom, I hated planning curriculum and did, in fact, want someone to tell me what to do. I didn’t understand the classical model and thought memory work and singing silly songs was….well….silly. I had heard of “CC” like many other homeschoolers but always turned down invitations to go to the informational meetings because, quite frankly, I didn’t want anyone to tell me what to do and how to homeschool my kids. This is an unbiased review of Classical Conversations from a mom with two kids at the Foundations level after 2 1/2 years of using the Classical Conversations curriculum. Let me start by saying I am in NO WAY paid or sponsored by Classical Conversations during the writing of this article, nor have I ever been.
